CALL FOR SPECIAL SESSION CONTRIBUTIONS
In addition to regular full and short papers, the conference will also offer special sessions on dedicated topics related to AI and VR/AR.
Special sessions will be part of the main technical program and feature full and short paper presentations on the respective topic.
Papers submitted to a special session will undergo a similar review process as regular full or short papers. Accepted submissions will be published in the conference proceedings by IEEE Computer society press and included into the IEEE Xplore Digital Library. Distinguished quality papers presented at the conference will also be selected for best paper awards and for publication in internationally renowned journals. See below for submission details.
Special session on "AI for new interaction, experiences, and applications in VR/AR"
Creating a perfect virtual or augmented world is one thing. Making it something that can be truly experienced in engaging, interactive ways that are also beneficial and gainful for users is a whole different story. In this special session, we want to focus on how AI-related technology can make these experiences richer, more powerful and more lifelike, and improve performance. Examples demonstrating how AI enables new usages of VR/AR or improves existing ones are welcome as well.

Special session on "AI for VR/AR Gaming & Simulations"
Virtual and augmented reality gaming offers tremendous opportunities, be it for practicing skills, experimenting, researching, learning, or just simply playing for relaxation and leisure. Yet, VR/AR games also raise huge demands for developers. Players expect the best, most realistic experiences. Learners need complex, life-like simulations. Researchers require real-time and accurate sensor measures for their experiments. In this special session, we want to explore how AI can help achieving these expectations and push VR/AR gaming to the next level. We welcome full and short research papers, as well as early prototypes, position statements, and work-in-progress ideas.

Special session on "Avatars for AI & VR"
Creating realistic digital humans has become a center piece for the take off VR and AI a necessary piece to
achieve it. Current VR worlds are widely underpopulated, and that prevents us from realizing the true potential
of this technology. Humans are not only basic for a social metaverse but can also alter our own behavior and
perceptual experience when representing users. There are many challenges related to this work that include
advancements on avatar creation, the use of look-alike avatars, overcoming the uncanny valley, tracking and
sensing systems as well as real-time or procedural animation and finally achieving natural interaction and
engagement in applications.
This special session will invite key players in the field to discuss how to democratize avatars and join the scientific
community with the latest advancements in avatars. Work at the edge of perception, creation animation,
interaction and automation of avatars will be welcomed in this session.

Special session on "Reasoning and Intelligence for Digital Twins in Advanced Manufacturing (INTEGRATIVE)"
Digital twins have become essential in the digital transformation of the industry.
It is rapidly becoming the technology of choice for virtualizing the physical world.
However, major issues still exist that are related to the availability of data, the
intuitiveness and efficiency of interfaces and interactions paradigms for their
representation. To unleash the full power of digital twins, the integration of usercentered
intelligence through AI methods provides strong insights.
This Special Session on Reasoning and Intelligence for Digital Twins in
Advanced Manufacturing (INTEGRATIVE), hosted by the 3rd IEEE International
Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality (AIVR 2020), aims at
putting to the front the latest cutting-edge research but also exploring research
perspectives on enhancing digital twins in the whole product development
process and lifecycle through human-centered intelligence.
We invite researchers to submit original, high-quality
research papers related to enhancing digital twins. Relevant topics include, but
are not limited to:

Authors are invited to submit a paper manuscript to any of the special sessions listed above. Papers should be no more than 8 pages including references (shorter submissions are very welcome as well) in double-column IEEE format following the official IEEE Manuscript Formatting guidelines. Review will be double-blind, so please remove all author information in the submissions. Also consider the IEEE policies for publications (i.e., you must own copyright to all parts and the manuscript must be original work and not currently under review elsewhere).
The conference proceedings will be published by IEEE Computer Society Press and included in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library.
Submissions will undergo a thorough peer review by dedicated program committees assembled of international experts on the topics of each special session.
